Mary E Okray

Mary E. Okray, 82, a resident of East Wenatchee for nearly eight years, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Central Washington Hospital. She was born on August 2, 1932 at Port Allegany, Pennsylvania, to the late Clyde and Wynona Mae (Cooper) Bryan. She grew up and received her education in Friendship, New York. She was the Head Cheerleader while in high school and graduated from the Friendship High School with the class of 1949. Shortly after high school she moved to Tucson, Arizona for health reasons. There she met Mark "Bud" Matthews and they were later married on July 27, 1950 at Nogalez, Arizona. They made their first home together in Tucson and made a number of moves throughout the state with Bud's job with the Department of Transportation. After a number of years, they made a brief move to California before returning to Arizona and settling on the Flying R Ranch located North of Vail, Arizona. In 1969, they moved back to Tucson and they purchased and operated a Texaco Service Station. Mary remained in Tucson until moving to Anchorage, Alaska in 1976. The following year, she moved to Houston, Texas. While in Houston, She met John Okray and they were married there in 1978. They moved to make their home at Panama City, Florida, where they owned a fishing boat known as the "Mary O". They spent a lot of time Deep Sea Fishing in the Gulf and during this time, Mary began her career as a Oil Painting Artist. They later moved to Henry, Tennessee, where they owned a picturesque farm. While living in Henry, she was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1997. Mary moved to Sierra Vista, Arizona in 1999, where she remained until moving to East Wenatchee in February of 2007. She had been an avid golfer until injuries received in an automobile accident forced her to give up her sport. She became well known as an accomplished oil painter. Mary is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law; Patsy " Pat" Dymond and her husband, Fred of Lake Jackson, Texas and Linda & Randy Acton, East Wenatchee; one sister, Judy McGee, Tucson, Arizona, 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Okray in 1997, two sisters, Elaine Moor and Wilma "Willie" Davis and one brother, David Allen Bryan. A Remembrance Gathering will be held at a later date at the Flying R Ranch located north of Vail, Arizona.
