Marcelle Marie Betz

We are saddened and heartbroken to announce the loving spirit and life force of Marcelle Marie Betz (nee Belliveau) passed suddenly on the evening of June 12, 2026. Marcelle was born in Ponteix, Saskatchewan, on April 20, 1946. She spent her early school years in Sylvania, Saskatchewan, later attending Bosco High School in Regina. Marcelle was beloved by many and touched countless lives with her thoughtfulness, humour, and generous spirit. She truly was beautiful inside and out—a shining light to anyone who needed a kind or supportive word. Marcelle and her husband, Wes, were blessed with more than 59 years of marriage filled with deep love and respect for one another. She cherished and prioritized her family above all else and shared a special bond with her only grandchild, Ben, who brought her joy unlike any other. Marcelle treated her friends and her children’s friends like family, offering the same warmth, kindness, and care to all who were fortunate to know her. Marcelle was deeply involved with her friends and every community she became part of, from Minnesota to Vancouver Island and many places in between. When visiting Shannon and Ben in Chaska, she volunteered at the Blessed Bee Thrift Store. While living in Regina, she was a caregiver and dear friend for many years to Ida Stockman, a senior who had no family in her life. In Nanaimo, Marcelle baked for various high schools to help ensure that less fortunate students always had something good to eat, and she served lunch at monthly meetings for the Nanaimo chapter of the CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind). She also helped with strata club events where she lived and planted flowers to beautify the entrances of her community. If someone was in need, Marcelle was often the first to step up and lend a hand, becoming a mother figure to many beyond her own children. Marcelle had many hobbies and interests, including knitting, choir, hiking, walking groups, and golf. She was an excellent seamstress and crocheted beautiful pieces. She loved scrapbooking and always added her own special touch to greeting cards and gift wrap. Marcelle was also a wonderful cook and baker, and many who visited her felt as though they were being treated to a five-star bed and breakfast. Everyone had a favourite dish or baked item she made, and you could feel that each one was prepared with love just for you. When it came to writing cards or letters, Marcelle had an exceptional gift for knowing just what to say in any situation. She loved music, dancing, travel, history, gardening, the outdoors, camping, and fishing. She lived life to the fullest, and these interests brought her many close friendships along the way. Marcelle is survived by her adoring husband, Wes Betz; children: Cory Betz (Serbiene) and Shannon Carter (Scott); grandson, Ben Carter; brother, Guy Belliveau (Darlene); and sister, Joanne Campbell (Russ). She was predeceased by her parents, Gabrielle and Dalmas Belliveau, and brothers: Gerald, Norman, and Gilles Belliveau.
