Leonard Emanuel Evans

On December 27th, 2014, Leonard E. Evans passed away peacefully with family by his side. He was born on March 14th, 1930 to Joseph and Ethel Evans. They had waited eighteen years for a child. The family built a home on Lake Chelan and lived there for six years before moving back to Wenatchee. At the age of eight, Leonard's Dad gave him a small gasoline car which he shared with friends. For a penny you could ride with Leonard around the block. Leonard graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1949. He sold cars and worked for Sadler Construction. In 1951 he was drafted into the army. After basic training, he was sent to Georgia Tech for summer school before leaving for Korea. In 1953, both Leonard and Joan Thulean returned to Wenatchee - he from the service and she from college. They were married in October of 1953. They were blessed with three sons - Garrett, Steve, and Gregory. The family lived in East Wenatchee, but Lake Chelan became their home away from home. In 1955, Leonard started his own business in a service station/truck stop. Everything grew from there on the same site. He was a member of the Elks Club, Wenatchee Golf and Country Club, and Lake Chelan Yacht Club. He was also president of the Chrysler advertising board and a car coach for the University of Washington. His activities outside of work were hunting, fishing, snow and water skiing, golf, and family events at home and Lake Chelan. He also loved to gamble. The family wants to thank his wonderful and compassionate care-givers. They enabled him to accomplish his many goals and ideas. Despite his disabilities, Leonard's strong will helped him to live a busy and active life. He is survived by his wife Joan, of sixty-one years; two sons and their wives, Garrett and Shannon, Steve and Cheryl; eight grandchildren, Kristen and Kirk Ising, Lacey and James Weller, Shanayne, Stephanie and Jan Evans, Ryan Evans, Tyler and Sarah Todd-Evans, Caitlin Evans; and four great-grandchildren, Tait, Karen, Olivia and Mallory Ising. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Gregory. Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 15th at First United Methodist Church at 941 Washington Street, Wenatchee. Pastor Michael McNeil from Trinity UMC will be conducting the service. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial, 1301 10th St NE, East Wenatchee.
