John P. Jurovich

John Jurovich, 65, a 15 year Rock Island resident, passed away at his home on Tuesday afternoon, March 31, 2015, following a sudden illness. He was born on July 28, 1949 at Laurel, Mississippi, to the late Peter and Gladys Jurovich. As a young child, the family made a number of moves with his father's career in the Military Service. At the age of 10, they moved to the West Spokane area and John attended schools in Cheney. He graduated from the Cheney High School in 1967. He met and was later married to Linda Reel in Spokane in 1968. To this union his three daughters were born. They moved to make their home in Grangeville, Idaho. In 1972, he accepted employment with the Job Corps and they moved to Roseburg, Oregon. He was transferred to Moses Lake with Job Corp in 1980. In 1981, He became a Grant County Deputy Sheriff and worked his way up through the department to Chief Deputy and later became a Homicide Detective. He had also received advanced training at the FBI Academy. In the mid 1990's, he began his own computer service known as "Northwest Computers and in 2000, he moved to make his home in Rock Island. He became an Investigator for the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries in 2004 and remained working there until retiring in June of 2014. John was also a Licensed Private Investigator operating a agency known as "Advanced Investigative Services". John was a Master Barbequer and a great cook. He collected antique toys and Zippo Lighters, enjoyed gardening and was very proud of his yard and liked going to the Casino's. He was loved very deeply by his daughter's and was a wonderful grandfather. He is survived by his Domestic Partner of 19 years, Lisa G. Bell, Rock Island; three daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa & Kenneth Abel, Clarkston, WA, Susan & Bill Swindoll, Wenatchee and Lisa & Vance Smith, Lewiston, ID; one sister, Linda Garcia, Airway Heights, WA; two grandchildren, Blake Hamilton, Clarkston, WA and Skyler Smith, Lewiston, ID; his extended family includes, Patrick & Jessica Sagdal and his three sons, Haven, Brayden and Ryker all of Richland, WA and Brady Bell and his daughter, Meliah of Conconully, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mildred Jurovich and two grandsons, Tyler Schneirla and David Jurovich. A Remembrance Gathering will be held at a later date.
