Evelyn Arlequeeuw

Evelyn Arlequeeuw January 15, 1925 - April 18, 2014 While visiting her son Rusty and daughter in law in East Wenatchee, Evelyn experienced a series of strokes in March and April. In her last 2 weeks each of her seven children had the opportunity to visit her before she entered into rest on Friday, April 18, 2014 at the age of 89. Evelyn was born in Pensacola, FL on January 15, 1925 to the late Alvin Strehle Sr. and Christine (Deiss) Strehle. She was the third of four children. Evelyn grew up during the depression era, giving her strong work ethics for life. Her school years were spent in Chicago, IL where she was a great athlete, participating in track and basketball. In the 1960's Evelyn and her first husband and five children moved to Southern California. Through two other marriages she had 2 more children, bringing it to seven. Raising seven children on her own wasn't easy, it was difficult at times, but she had a strong conviction and a great sense of humor throughout. Some of the fondest memories the kids had with their mother was on Wednesday's. She'd prepare a lunch of fried chicken, potato salad and homemade goodies; load all of the kids in the station wagon and head to one of the southern Calif. beaches. After a day in the sun they were treated to ice cream and as they rode home in the back of the station wagon they dangled their feet out the window. Camping trips were always a hit, never a tent, just sleeping out under the stars. Her cooking was wonderful, pot roast(YUM), fried chicken(YUM). Mom always loved family time around the table where she would be able to cook, serve and wait on those she loved. The table was always filled with her wonderful dishes. She LOVED Jehovah God, her family, friends, and patrons that came to her work. Daughter Debbie speaks how patiently mom waited for her to grow up and that she never gave up on her. She SERVED her community through her congregation and GAVE freely her whole life. A waitress until the age of 75, son Tim remembers mom mentioning from time to time that she loved her work since she enjoyed serving and helping others. She is preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, Helen Christine Marie Strehle; brothers, Alvin Strehle & Walter Strehle. Evelyn leaves behind her children, Rusty (Evelyn) Gray, East Wenatchee,WA, Debbie (James) Green, Fort Collins, CO, David (Peggy) Gray, Ventura , CA, Timothy (Dollirae) Gray, Newbury Park, CA, Christine Gray, Anchorage, AK, Steven (Roxann) Arlequeeuw, Frisco, TX, J Suzette "Suzy" (Joe) Amaya, Las Vegas, NV, 22 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way....and her little, loving, faithful dog "Ginger", who misses her greatly. *You are missed and loved greatly, mom!
