Amareena Elizabeth Bernal

On January 24, 2016, our "Amy" lost her courageous battle with leukemia. It had been a brave battle that included many chemos and experimental treatments. She unselfishly willed her body to the University of Washington for learning. Amy was born February 21, 1979 to Bonnie (Cooper) and Patrick Hayes in Everett, WA. After moving back to Wenatchee, she attended Eastmont Schools and graduated with honors in 1997. She was smart, mesmerizing and interesting to listen to - we all learned from her. She was witty and sarcastically humorous at times. From childhood on, she loved books, movies and music. She had an amazing ability to recall and recite at anytime a word or line or character from whatever she had read, seen or heard. In 1998, she married Tony Bernal and they had three beloved daughters. She moved back to Everett to raise her girls. She worked hard, never missing a day of work. One of her bosses said she worked harder with one broken arm than some people do with two! During this time, she attended college and became a pharmacy tech. She was independent and lived life on her own terms. Her passing leaves a void for so many of us to survive a life we cannot imagine without her. She leaves behind her daughters who loved her so: Elena, Esperanza and Eva Bernal; step-daughter, Lissette. She was so grateful to enjoy her granddaughters, Alessandra and Kenani. She also leaves behind her father (steady and present throughout), Patrick Hayes; grandmother, Catherine Hayes; sister, Kelsey Hayes; and nephew, Elias Hayes. Her mother, Bonnie Cooper, who was blessed to be with her at the end; sister, Carissa Cooper, who looked up to her always; brother, Brian Cooper, Jr. There were many aunts, uncles and cousins, but she had a special relationship with her aunts, Connie Ames and Susan Price, who loved her as their own. She made many friends, but had a lifelong friendship with her "sister", Michelle Hedges. Also, Maxx Bacon, who loved her when she was well and stayed by her side when she was ill. The night before she passed, she told us that she wasn't afraid because her Nana Mom, Vivian Loken, was waiting. We Love You Much...Take your broken wings and fly away!
