Susan Teddy LaFollette

Susan "Sue" LaFollette, 64, a 17 year Wenatchee area resident, passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Central Washington Hospital, following an extended illness. She was born on May 10, 1946 in Seattle, the daughter of the late Thomas and Kerube (Steensland) Bromley. She spent her early years growing up in the North Seattle area prior to the family moving to Bellevue when she was a young girl. There she was able to enjoy having her own horse, "Peanuts" on their land. She attended Bellevue schools, Highland Jr. High and graduated from Bellevue High School in 1964. While in high school, Sue worked in the summers as a Camp Counselor at the Spirit Lake Episcopal Church Camp. Following high school, she continued her education at Whitman College in Walla Walla where she was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. She enjoyed being one of the only girls that had a car, her 1951 Nash, affectionately known as "Spud", a car she has today. She transferred to the University of Washington, where she received her B.A. in 1968, later earning her Master Degree in Speech Communications and Education. Following her graduation, her first teaching job brought her to Wenatchee, where she went to work at Eastmont High School. She met Robert Michael "Mick" LaFollette while in Wenatchee and they were later married on June 10, 1970 at Bellevue, Washington. They made their first home together in Spokane for one year before moving to Bellevue, where she became a Teacher at Bellevue High School. Sue became the Head of the English Department, taught Speech, Literature, Debate and Humanities A.P. classes. Following her retiring, they moved to make their home in Wenatchee in 1996. They have since remained in the Wenatchee Valley. She was a passionate teacher and a coach with the school debate teams. She enjoyed the outdoors, going to the ocean, fly fishing, gardening, parks, motorcycles, snowmobiling and boating. She had always been an avid dog lover. She is survived by her husband, Robert M. "Mick" LaFollette, Wenatchee; two step-daughters and their husbands, Renee' & Larry Caudle, Dryden and Dana & Rob Cox, Kent; her sister-in-law, Carolyn (John) Sprout, Wenatchee, her close friend & caregiver, Betsy Peirce, Wenatchee and five step-grandchildren, Rachael and Haley Caudle both of Dryden, Mitchell, Madison and Jacob Cox all of Kent. She was preceded in death by her parents. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Heritage Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, November 24th at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplain Scott Langager officiating.
