Sharon Marie McDougall

On October 29th, 2017 our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Sharon Marie McDougall, passed away after a short, gritty battle with cancer. She celebrated her 65th birthday two days earlier. Sharon was born on Oct. 27th, 1952 in Devils Lake, North Dakota to Harold Evenhus and Jane (Spidahl) Evenhus. The family soon moved to Washington State and made their home in Rock Island. At an early age Sharon and her brother Sherman contracted Tuberculosis and were required to stay at a sanatorium away from the family home. This fact may have led them to the self reliant attitude both were known to display throughout their lives. Sharon attended Rock Island elementary school, Sterling Junior High, and Eastmont High School, graduating with the class of 1971. Seeking opportunity and independence, she immediately started looking for work, landing a job with the U.S. Forest Service. Eventually she became one of the first female dispatchers associated with fire suppression. She spent the next 10 years in this capacity, but after getting married and starting a family, she realized the unpredictable hours were not going to allow her the time she wanted for her home life. In 1981, she started a 28 year career with the State of Washington. The majority of this time being spent with the Educational Service District. With the ESD she was responsible for coordinating Fiscal/Student record keeping for 28 school districts. Later on she accepted a position with the Wenatchee School District as an Information Specialist, coordinating computer services for the administrative and teaching staff. Her final position with the State was as a Administrative Assistant for six satellite university sites around the state. Her volunteer service includes 12 years as a court appointed special advocate (CASA) representing abused and neglected children. She was a founding member and board member with the Good Grief Center. In addition, Sharon also was a volunteer with the Chelan County Diversion Board, reviewing juvenile records to determine what services were necessary for children after an arrest. In 1998 Sharon also began working with the Washington Apple Education Foundation to determine conditions of eligibility for the selection of various scholarships. Sharon enjoyed hiking, golfing, kayaking, and, in her earlier years, playing softball. But of all her life activities, Sharon took the greatest pleasure being with her family. Whether it was helping organize a family gathering, taking care of a sick family member or just looking out for her grandchildren, she made those duties her priority. After her cancer diagnosis, her greatest sorrow was the thought of not being able to see her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews grow up. She is survived by her husband, Stuart McDougall, Wenatchee: her son and daughter-in-law, Bryon and Mary McDougall, Wenatchee; brother and sister-in-law, Stan and Jennifer Evenhus, East Wenatchee; sister-in-law, Laurie Evenhus, East Wenatchee; brother-in-law and wife, Scott and Lynda McDougall, East Wenatchee; brother-in-law and wife, Doug and Diana McDougall, Redmond; and five grandchildren, MacKenna, Finley, Grayson, Landon and Duncan, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Sherman and Stewart Evenhus and two nephews, Derek Evenhus and Cory McDougall. The McDougall Family would also like to express their gratitude for all the support given by our friends, the daily care of hospice, and the 24 hour attention provided by Laurie Evenhus and Sherry Roberts. At Sharon's request, a Celebration of Life is scheduled for close friends and family at the Wenatchee Golf and Country Club, Friday Novenber 10th, from 2-4 PM.
