Sharla Mae Johnson

Sharla Mae Johnson heard one last goodbye and I love you from her beloved family as she was called to Heaven, on December 29, 2015. She was born to the late Robert E. and Agnes B. (Kneebone) Johanson at Flandreau South Dakota. Her early years were spent with her siblings, Robert, Dale, Kay and David. In her early teens the family moved to the Tri-Cities and then to Wenatchee to be closer with extended family. During her high school years and those shortly thereafter, Sharla worked at Highline Convalescent Center as a nurse's aid. Her hard work and love for her patients didn't go amiss; an opening at the Wenatchee Junior College Nursing Program was made available for her to attend and earn her LPN license. It was during her time at college that a young man, with long hair and bearded, caught her attention. After many dates she married Donald "Don" Johnson on October 3, 1970. Together they made their home in Wenatchee and later in Sunnyslope. In 1971 they welcomed daughter Michelle to the family. In 1975 Don re-enlisted in the Navy and moved the family to San Diego returning to Wenatchee in 1977 and adding daughter Kim that year and daughter, Jennifer in 1979. Sharla continued to work part-time in the home health care industry as well as owning an in-home daycare. Sharla was the quintessential mom, she made sure that the girls experienced many things whether it was dining at restaurants and using proper etiquette, staying at hotels in the city while enjoying yearly school shopping trips or camping in the woods with family and friends. She made everything from scratch for their lunches, including the bread for sandwiches, clipped coupons, budgeted finances, chaperoned band trips, served on the PTA and baked goodies for bake sales. She taught the girls how to cook a proper meal and insisted that dinner was eaten at the table and everyone shared their day with the family. Traditions like pizza and movies every Friday were her specialty. Her family remembers her as always taking care of family which included her little sister Tina, which lived with them and was thought of as her daughter. When Sharla wasn't caretaking she enjoyed sewing, canning, collecting angels, and bringing home the bargains from yard sales. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister and "daughter", Tina Stotts. Sharla is survived by her husband of 45 years, Don Johnson; daughters, Michelle Santigo, Kimbery (Loy D) Bell and Jennifer Sandbak; brothers, Robert (Lori) Johanson, Dale (Cheryl) Johanson, David (Joanne) Johanson and sister, Kay (Richard) Menge 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
