Scott Whitmore Miller

Scott Whitmore Miller was born April 19, 1960 in Miami, Florida to James Whitmore Miller and Beverly Fonda James. In his early years, he was called Whit. He grew up in Miami, earned his GED and went to college. Scott had a lifelong need to move fast and act decisively. He loved racing motorcycles. He was a proud member of ARMA. He worked in landscaping until he took a trip to Squaw Valley and fell in love with the area. He lived there for almost 20 years, building ski lifts and working as a heavy equipment operator. In 2003, his friend Richard Bailey invited him to Manson, Washington to see his apple farm. Scott returned to Squaw Valley, where he decided to sell his house and buy the Bailey Orchard. Pat Bailey taught Scott about how to grow apples as Scott became the proud owner of 35 beautiful acres of the luscious fruit. Pat and Scott enjoyed many lunches together at Blueberry Hills during this time. Scott embraced this new life with enthusiasm, hard work and dedication. That same year, he met his future wife Orn on the internet. He traveled to Thailand to meet her in person and they were engaged. After they married in November 2003, Scott returned to Manson to run the farm while waiting for Orn to arrive in May of 2004. In August 2005, their son Dillon was born. Their son Carson arrived in October 2009. He found what he yearned for and achieved his goals and dreams. Scott was extremely proud of Orn's accomplishments and her adjustment living in the States. Scott treasured spending time with his boys. He took them skiing, to soccer, wrestling and taught Dillon to ride a motorbike. The family traveled to Thailand several times to visit Orn's family, spend time at the beach and to visit cousins. He enjoyed every kind of authentic Thai and Laos's food. Scott's favorite was Orn's sticky rice with One Day Sun Pork, among the many other delicious dishes she prepared. Scott enjoyed having friends and family from California come to visit. He loved taking them out on Lake Chelan in his boat and on occasion, ventured up to Stehekin for lunch. Scott tried to spend as much time as he could to create memories with Orn, Dillon, Carson and his extended family and many friends. In August of 2014, Scott was diagnosed with lung cancer. Instead of harvesting the apples he loved, Scott spent the last season visiting doctors and going to cancer treatments. This was very difficult for him. He suffered the effects of cancer for 8 months until the Lord took him home on Monday, May 25, Memorial Day. Scott is survived by his loving wife Orn, sons Dillon and Carson, sisters Elizabeth and Judy, brothers Michael, James and Daniel, 3 nieces, cousins April and Rebecca and many, many friends. Scott loved his family and friends. He also loved his apple farm. He grew many varieties of apples and enjoyed the entire growing process. This is why we are remembering him here today, in the middle of his orchard, next to his favorite Galas is so very special. Scott's personality was larger than life. He had a heart of gold and was generous in word and deed. It is hard to imagine this world without his intense, vital life force. Scott was loved and respected and will be greatly missed.
