Norman LeRoy Whitman

Norman LeRoy Whitman, 81, of Wenatchee, passed away on March 6, 2015. He was born on April 25, 1933, the son of the late Chester C. and Zelma C. (Gormley) Whitman, at Okanogan. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Wenatchee where Norman grew up and attended school, graduating from Wenatchee High School in 1951 and then attended University of Washington. On September 20, 1952 he married Beulah Marie Hansen in the Cashmere Baptist Church. Norman worked at C&W Warehouse Company in Monitor during the fall of 1952 and then served two years in the Army. Upon arrival home he joined the 440th Civil Affairs Company (USAR) in Wenatchee, retiring on May 17, 1975. In 1955 he returned to the warehouse as the General Foreman, retiring in 1961. In 1961 he worked at Alcoa, starting as a storeroom clerk for 2 years. He was involved in implementing the computer system from the beginning on the pot lines as well as Building 80, and there he became Data Processing Supervisor (MIS). On March 1990 he transferred to Northwest Alloy, Inc.; Alcoa's magnesium producing subsidiary at Addy, as the MIS Supervisor. He retired from NW Alloys on June 1992. He attended Wenatchee Valley College in 1992-94, graduating with an AA degree in Micro-Computer Applications and Accounting. He worked in accounting at Central Washington Hospital for ten years. Norman served as a member of the Monitor School board from 1967-1968 and was a Scoutmaster of Troop 17 and Troop 2. He dearly loved being with his family, Norman is survived by his wife, Beulah; children, Scott (Barbara) Whitman, Jeri (Craig) Beier, Carol Trainer, David (Laurie) Whitman, Staci (Ernie) Richardson; sister in-law Ruth Whitman; sisters, Diana Reid, Debbie (Danny) Haase; grandchildren, Adam and Heather Trainer, Nicole Beier, Drew Whitman and Katelyn Richardson. Services will be held on Monday, March 16, 2015, 10:00am at the First United Methodist Church with 11:30 graveside inurnment and Military Honors following at the Wenatchee Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Potluck will continue at Sticks House of Cigars, 527 Piere St. Suite A, Wenatchee. Memorials can be made in his name to Hospice Foundation of NCW, POB 3406, Wenatchee, WA 98807.
