Michael Everhart

Michael John Everhart Mike came into this world just minutes ahead of his twin sister Mary on March 28, 1958. He and Mary were close as twins but at the tender age of three, he experienced the heart-wrenching loss of her. It would be another 62 years until he joined her on February 11, 2024 near Chelan, WA. Although he was a young, three years old at the time, the loss of Mary left a mark on him that would be with him for the rest of his life – a life of solitude. Mike lived a simple life, not interested in visiting people or places and often withdrawing from social gatherings. Those who knew him understood that he preferred the company of his own thoughts over the company of others. It was simply who he was, but his preference of isolation did not mean he didn’t have passions and interests. He graduated from Edmonds High School in Edmonds, WA. His career was entirely related to the sea. From the beginning of his career of fishing in Alaska, to operating ship tenders throughout the Pacific Northwest, his love of the sea grew into a passion with his favorite time being on night watch. He preferred to be an anonymous and silent watch to safeguard others. His personal passion was Hang Gliding. It wasn’t just a hobby, it was a way of life. The solitude of being in the sky and chasing the winds, feeling the freedom of everything but the sky above and ground below – it was a part of his spirit. Although years of working a physically taxing maritime career left him riddled with injuries and pain that led to the end of hang gliding, Mike remained drawn to the community and land he loved. No matter where he went, the mountain was in him and it was here that he knew he had to stay. He had his own little piece of the same mountain he once soared outside of Lake Chelan. Living on the land he soared countless times above and traveled peacefully below brought him genuine happiness. He was a man who loved the land he immersed himself in. His daughter, mother, brothers, and sisters along with nieces and nephews too many to count are all comforted to know that Mike is at peace, free of pain and forever in the arms of his precious sister. Watching over them for eternity are his parents and brother. Glide through the eternal heavens forever, Mike, and embrace all who shared love with you and stand watch for those who will follow you and may you greet them with the love long overdue.
