Mary Louise Friebus

Mary passed away on December 31,2014. Her children, Patti McSwane Lein, Victor McSwane, John Friebus and Bernadine Friebus Yancey and her husband Tony, her Grandsons, Michael and Alan as well as others all gathered to be with her during her final hours. Mary was born October 5, 1925 in Omak, Washington to Austin and Ethel Olsen. She had two older sisters, Edith Pearl and Bernadine Vivian and seven years later, in 1932, a baby brother, John. Mary graduated with Honors from Riverside High School in 1943 during the difficult years of WWII. After the war she owned and operated a Merle Norman Studio in Omak. She had married Harry Eugene McSwane and they had Patricia Ann (Patti) and Victor Austin. Mary was left a widow in 1955 when her husband was killed in a plane crash. She later married Walter Friebus. They had two children Bernadine Leah and John Walter. They were divorced in 1969. Mary moved to Wenatchee where she attended Wenatchee Valley College. She later worked at various elementary schools in East Wenatchee and retired from Eastmont Junior High where she worked in the library--a job she enjoyed very much. She loved to sew and was an avid collector of "black glass". She had a great interest in aviation and followed the history of "Miss Veedol". She was thrilled when her daughter won a flight over Wenatchee, Waterville, up the Columbia to Chelan and back just a few years ago. She and Patti and Victor have had great memories of that trip! She is also survived by John's wife Shawna and her Grandchildren Michael, Alan,Julia, Jennifer, Jayne, Suzanne and Reesa. Her Great Grandchildren are Stella, Ivy Kay, Jimi, Otto and Daynan. She will also be greatly missed by a niece, Donna, and her children, Keith, Kevin and Kristine, their spouses and two Granddaughters, Meghan and Elisabeth. She also leaves behind a niece and nephew, Susan Witham and Larry Witham and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents and her three siblings. At Mary's request there will be no service. Contributions in memory of Mary can be made to the fund for "Miss Veedol" or your favorite charity.
