Mary Duncan

Mary Anne Duncan, 74, a longtime resident of the Wenatchee valley, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023 after an extended illness. Mary was born in Wenatchee and moved to Michigan when she was a toddler and returned to Wenatchee with her family a couple years later. She attended Wenatchee schools, graduating from Wenatchee High School in 1967. After high school she went to work at Colonial Vista as a nurse’s aide. She then went on to work at A&W/Royce’s for many years before working at the Wenatchee School District as a cook. She spent quite a number of years at the school district but then chose to go back to Colonial Vista where she worked as a cook until her retirement. It was while employed at Royce’s that she met her longtime companion, Leroy Maxey. They spent many years together until his death in 1996. Mary was the oldest of 12 children and she always had an open door for friends and family. She loved to play games, and especially loved to play cards. She loved all animals but had a special place in her heart for cats. She was relieved to know that Miss Molly was going to a good home with her son and grandsons. Her greatest accomplishment in life were her two sons, Duane and Shane. She was very proud of them and the men they became. They both spent many hours with her in her final days, which she took much comfort in. Mary is survived by her two sons, Duane Duncan, Rock Island, and Shane (Julie) Duncan, East Wenatchee; Grandchildren, Isaac Duncan, Rock Island, Alex Duncan, Rock Island, Rylee Duncan, Wenatchee, Kaitlyn Duncan, East Wenatchee, Callie Duncan, East Wenatchee; Siblings, John (Jean) Render, Spokane, Michael (Marlene) Render, Auckland, New Zealand, Cathy (Glen) Graevell, Grand Coulee, Paul (Roselle) Render, East Wenatchee, Bill (Ann) Render, New Jersey, Steve Render, Wenatchee, Mathew Render, East Wenatchee, Tom Render, California and Therese Williams (Olympia), and an aunt, Cecilia Higgins, Yakima. She also had numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Jane Render, and two siblings Joseph and Martin Render. The family would like to thank her many caregivers that she considered to be family. So many of them visited her while she was in the hospital as well as Regency Care Center and we are so thankful for them. Visitation will be held Friday, October 13, 2023 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Heritage Memorial Chapel. Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 10:00 am at Wenatchee City Cemetery.
