Martha Fay Smith

Martha Fay Smith, 68, of Wenatchee, a former longtime Brewster and Bridgeport resident, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2011 at RiverWest Retirement Community in Wenatchee. She was born on July 30, 1942 at Comfort, Texas, to the late Leon and Martha (Noah) Peters. As an early teen, she moved to Brewster, where she attended junior high and high school, graduating with the class of 1960. Following high school, she was married to Dan Galbraith in Brewster, where they continued to make their home together. During the mid 1960's, they moved to Princeton, British Columbia, where they managed a restaurant together. They returned to Brewster in the late 1960's and shortly after their return, Martha went to work for the Brewster School District as a Secretary. She continued working at the school district until the late 1980's. She then returned to the restaurant business and worked as a waitress for the Brewster House, the Steak House and the American Legion Club all in Brewster and the Eagles Lodge in Bridgeport. Health issues forced her to retire in 2002. She continued to make her home in Bridgeport until moving to Wenatchee six months ago. She was a member of the Bridgeport Eagles Lodge and the Brewster American Legion. Martha enjoyed reading, especially Harry Potter books and had a collection of all the Harry Potter books and movies. She loved her dog, "Bootsy", liked to socialize with friends and going fishing and camping with her friend, Roy. She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, William "Bill" Galbraith, Newport, WA, and Benjamin "Ben" & Lori Galbraith, Wenatchee; one daughter and son-in-law, Teresa & Jeff Williams, Bremerton, WA; one brother and sister-in-law, Bud & Lucy Shull, Wenatchee; one sister Mary Peters, Tucson, AZ; seven grandchildren, Haley Galbraith, Seattle, Cassandra Barroso, Mount Helens, OR, Austin Luthi, Skamokawa, WA, Chase Norman, Wenatche, Matthew Williams, Mike Williams and Jessica Williams all of Bremerton, and one great granddaughter, Ashlynn Williams, Bremerton. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jack Shull. A Rememberance Gathering will be held at a later date in Brewster.
