Lois Foreman Yates

Lois Foreman Yates was born March 12, 1924 at home near Aurora, Nebraska. She was the fifth of seven children born to Roy and Erma (Witty) Foreman. She started school in Aurora and continued in Kansas, Illinois, and Idaho, where she graduated from Caldwell High School at age seventeen with the Class of 1941. Lois worked in retail sales for a couple of years before continuing her education at Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Oregon. While in college, Lois met Ron Yates and they were married on June 24, 1945. Upon completion of their studies, Ron and Lois lived in Cheney, WA (1946-1949), Pomeroy, WA (1949-1956), Kennewick, WA (1956-1977), Wenatchee, WA (1977-1997), and East Wenatchee, WA (1997-2009). In addition to her work in retail sales, Lois worked for seventeen years as an assistant librarian for the Kennewick School District and as a facilitator for Positive Self Image groups. She filled her retirement years with volunteer activities, travel, and socializing with their many friends. Lois was a former member of Central Christian Church in Wenatchee and a current member of First United Methodist Church of Wenatchee, P.E.O. International Chapter CC, and the Douglas County Democrats. Lois passed away at home on May 4, 2009 following a courageous bout with cancer. She faced death with grace and dignity, surviving the tough times without complaint and helping her family plan for life beyond her death. Lois is survived by her husband of nearly sixty-four years, Ron Yates; daughters April Yates Hardy (Doyle Hardy) of Yakima and Dawn (Frank) Collings of East Wenatchee; granddaughter Darcelle (Ronn) Andrus of East Wenatchee; grandsons Jason Collings of George, Jon Hardy of Yakima, and Chris Collings of North Bend; great grandchildren Karissa Andrus and Ryan Andrus of East Wenatchee; brother Harold (Louise) Foreman of New Port Richey, FL; sisters Evelyn Smith of Kennewick, Betty (Merv) Sattler of Caldwell, ID, and Mabel Redman of Weiser, ID; numerous nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and a sister. A celebration of Lois' life will be held at First United Methodist Church in Wenatchee at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2009. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to P.E.O. International Chapter CC c/o 2110 Ione, Wenatchee, WA 98801 or First United Methodist Church of Wenatchee to fund ministry to those who are terminally ill or require long term care. Heritage Memorial Chapel in East Wenatchee is in charge of arrangements and visitation will be held from 9 am to 8 pm on Thursday and Friday, May 7th and 8th, at the chapel.
