Jay Tyler Plumb

Jay Tyler Plumb, 88, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, died Wednesday August 19, 2009 at Central Washington Hospital. He was born in Sumatra, Montana on December 31, 1920, to Charles Tyler and Mary Ellen Hurley Plumb, the youngest of three boys. He and his family moved to Wenatchee in 1958 where he was a resident for more than fifty years. He was a pharmacist at the Owl Drug Store, the Medical Dental Pharmacy and for several years he was the owner of Claassen's Drug Store. He also worked at Ken's Pharmacy after Claassen's Drug closed. Because his father was a railroad man, his family moved all over Montana, living in the railroad depots of towns like Bozeman, Ringling, Roy and Judith Gap. By the time Jay graduated from High School in Roy, he had attended at least 13 different schools. During World War II, Jay served as a Navy Pharmacists Mate from 1942 to 1945. During this time he received training at Farragut, Idaho and served at US Naval Hospitals in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Astoria, Oregon: and Bremerton, Washington. Jay began his college education in 1939 and his schooling was interrupted by World War II. He continued his schooling after he was discharged and he received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Montana in 1947. Jay married Patricia Ann Bergmann, April 12, 1952 at the First Presbyterian Church in Kalispell, Montana. He was dedicated to his church, family, and community. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wenatchee, serving as a Deacon, Elder and Clerk of Session. He later became a member of the Eastmont Presbyterian Church. Jay, who was an Eagle Scout, was active with the Boy Scouts of America, helping with Troop 2 while his son was a member and he continued to help whenever he could. He also coached Little League. He was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis, serving as President for one year. Jay participated in the production and filming of Senior TV shows. He was dedicated to helping others and many may remember him from the eight years he helped at Respite Day Care. He is survived by his wife Pat Plumb and three children, Robert J. Plumb (Pauline), Juneau, Alaska; Cathie A. Lau (Jeff), East Wenatchee; Patty J. Plumb, Spokane and granddaughter Cara Dockins, Bellingham. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday October 8, 2009 at 2:00 pm, at the Eastmont Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jim Deal officiating. The family requests memorial donations to the Eastmont Presbyterian Memorial Fund, the Wenatchee Adult Respite Day Care Center or the charity of your choice. Arrangements are assisted by Heritage Memorial Chapel, East Wenatchee.
