Harold Edward Simon

Harold E. Simon, 90, a 39 year Wenatchee resident passed away on April 9, 2012 at the Dore' Haven Adult Family Home in East Wenatchee, following a full life. Harold was born to the late John & Mary (Elseman) Simon on December 11, 1921 in Gretna, Nebraska. He grew up on the family corn farm, near Gretna and attended and graduated from Gretna High School. Following high school he moved to California to work in the manufacturing with the war effort as a machinist, making ammunition during WWII. He met and later was married to Dorthea Hansen on May 22, 1943 at Inglewood, CA. He volunteered for the service and was placed in the Marine Corps. He served in the South Pacific Theatre in Saipan & Okinawa; following his honorable discharge he returned to his family at Inglewood. CA. He found employment at Modern Heat Treating, where he worked in the Aircraft Industry tempering steel, for over 20 years. They moved in May of 1973 to Wenatchee where they purchased their home and orchard on Easy Street. He continued to operate their orchard. He also worked as the custodian of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Maiden Lane Chapel until retiring in the 1990's. He retired from orcharding in early 2000's. Harold was a longtime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Harold was able to enjoy his family and friends through the loving care of Jayson & Bobbi Hills at Dore' Haven who have become like family. The family would like to thank Karl Lambert, ARNP, Dr. Brandon Childs and the Home Health & Hospice for their special, kind care. He is survived by his children; Bonnie (Leon) Grant, East Wenatchee and Keith (Barbara) Simon, Maple Valley, two sisters-in-law, Vera Smith & Valena DuVall both of Wenatchee, seven grandchildren; Shanna Baird, Vancouver, WA, Rachael Grant-Dixon, San Diego, CA, Marcie Maynes, Vancouver, WA, Brian Simon, Snoqualmie, WA, Chad Simon, Henderson, NV, Nicholas "Nick" Simon, Snoqualmie, WA, and Travis Simon, Huntersville, NC, and 20 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by wife, Dorthea in 1994, his parents and brother, Harlen Simon. A funeral service will be on Saturday, April 14, 2012, 11:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ Maiden Lane Chapel, 1621 Maiden Lane, Wenatchee with Bishop Dennis Webb officiating. Visitation will be in the Relief Society Room one hour prior to the service. The Interment will follow in the Sunnyslope Cemetery with Military Honors.
