Glenn A Engquist

Glenn Allen Engquist Wenatchee, WA Glenn Allen Engquist went home to heaven on Monday, February 19, 2018, 12 days before his 95th birthday, in Wenatchee, WA. He was born on March 3, 1923, in his family farmhouse on Swede Hill, west of Yakima, WA. His parents were Julius L. and Mildred Engquist. He met his wife, Glenna M. Ernst, on a blind date and they married June 12,1948. They celebrated 69 and a half happy years of marriage. Glenn was educated in schools in Yakima. His first eight grades were in Marks School, a three-room schoolhouse. He graduated from Yakima Senior High School and attended Yakima Junior College. He served in the Armed Forces in World War II.Glenn was employed by the Post Office for 31 years, and retired as Postmaster of Sunnyside, WA, in 1978. He and Glenna then moved to Moses Lake, WA, and he served as Pastor of the Church of God (Anderson, IN). In 1986, they sold their home, stored all their belongings, and moved into their motor home. For three years, they traveled full-time and visited all of the lower 48 states. Then, they spent the next 11 years as snowbirds, spending their winters in Yuma, and the Phoenix, AZ, area and their summers on Lake Chelan. In 2000, they finally settled in Wenatchee, and became members of the Calvary Bible Church. Throughout his 95 years, Glenn enjoyed many hobbies - playing softball, fishing, bowling, and golf, and after retirement, he enjoyed doing needlepoint. Glenn was often heard singing one of his many favorite hymns in church. Glenn loved the Lord and was active and involved in all activites of the church. His greatest desire was to serve the Lord. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family. Having his family together was one of his greatestjoys. Glenn was known for his corny jokes. He was preceded in death by his son, David Engquist; and his brother, Frank Engquist. Glenn is survived by his wife, Glenna; and two daughters: Lynette (Denny) Metzer of South Carolina, and Lori (David) Franklin of Wenatchee, WA; nine grandchildren and their spouses; and 21 great-grandchildren. A special thank you to all the caregivers at RiverWest Assisted Living for their loving care of Glenn during his stay and for the excellent guidance and compassion of Hospice Care. On Saturday, March 3, 2018, (Glenn's birthday), Pastor Steve Whitney will be conducting a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m., at 1401 South Union, East Wenatchee, WA. Driving directions: Heading east on Hwy 28, turn right on South Union, then Left into the venue parking. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution to Calvary Bible Church, Alzheimer's Association or the Humane Society.
