Gertrude Ann Hendrick

May 29, 1925 - April 4, 2015 "Always be nice!" was Trudy's motto in life, and living life positively was the reason so many people were drawn to her. From Friday spaghetti dinner "drop-ins" to her open door policy with her children's friends, she became the mother to many. Trudy's nature was fun-loving: birthdays were huge events; laundry day included her singing from the dreary basement; she loved dancing; and even her morning Jack LaLanne's TV exercise routine was entertainingly fun. She also had a creative flare, like painting the outside of the Omak Lake cabin, red, yellow, blue, and green or decorating the basement in a Hawaiian theme. Trudy was active in many clubs and activities: boating, golfing, square-dancing, bowling, Country Club Juniors, Catholic Church Choir, and Altar Society. On May 29, 1925 Gertrude Ann was born to George L. and Mary (Lapp) Adam in Omak. She never liked her first name, so she was known as Trudy. She always had a positive attitude, even when times were tough. She grew up during the depression and WWII, but she had fond memories of her childhood. She graduated from high school in 1943 and was very active in debate, tennis and cheerleading. Trudy was proud of the fact that she completed one-and-a-half years of college, even though she had to take time off between quarters to earn money to continue. In 1946 she married her sweetheart, Cecil (Cy) Hendrick, who she met in the first grade. She began working in the telephone office as an operator and then a service representative. She also packed apples for 23 years contributing to the family's income and providing a few extra gifts at Christmas. Cy and Trudy were apple orchardists for 40 years, retiring in 1986. They received "Growers of the Year Award" in 1964. Trudy and Cy loved to travel after they raised their four children. They visited all 50 states and 23 foreign countries. After 64 years of marriage, she lost her sweetheart and moved to Wenatchee in 2009 to be near her daughters. She made many friends during her five years at Colonial Vista. Everyone who knew her loved her, and she will be greatly missed by family and friends. Trudy is survived by Terri (Dave) Bawden, Anacortes, Tauni (Tim) Hink, Cashmere, and Robert (Susan) Hendrick, and family friend, Carla (Watkins) Roberts, Prescott, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cy and son, David. She has eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Okanogan Valley Memorial Gardens at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2015. A Celebration of Life will follow at Tim and Tauni Hink's home in Cashmere.
