Florence Marie Ziuchkovski

Florence Marie (Bender) Ziuchkovski, 88, passed away on December 4, 2008, just shy nine days of her 89th birthday. Florence was born on December 13, 1919, to Floyd and Emma Bender in Deer Park, WA. She attended school in Deer Park and graduated from Deer Park High School in 1937. She played the piano for dances and met her one love, John Ziuchkovski, at a dance. They were married on May 4, 1941, in Kettle Falls, WA. They lived short periods of their early years in Kettle Falls, Everett, Chewelah and Quincy. John and Florence had two daughters, Sharon Marie, born in Chewelah and Janet Louise, born in Ephrata. They settled in Wenatchee in 1952, and never left. Florence worked at the Montgomery Ward Fabric Department for 20 years, until the store closed. After losing her husband, John, in 1969, Florence entered nursing training and earned her LPN degree in 1972. She worked at Central Washington Hospital in Orthopedics. She loved her work there and all the doctors and nurses she worked with. She retired from nursing at the age of 72, with serving almost of 20 years of service. She was active in the East Wenatchee Grange, Licensed Practical Nurses Association of Washington State and was District President. She was very active with the YWCA Estate Sales. She was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church. She loved helping people. She also loved collecting teddy bears and she especially loved her dog, Buddy, who she had lost recently and missed him terribly. Now they are together again. Florence has touched many lives over the years and the lives she touched only enriched her own life. She will be missed. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Lockyer and husband, Barry of Ocala, FL and Janet Long and husband, Bob of East Wenatchee. She had six grandchildren who she loved very much, Kristen Scheble of Dallas, TX, Philip (Lollie) Scheble of Dallas, TX, Shannon (Gary) Arnold of Jamestown, NC, Jeffrey (Deborah) Scheble of St. Petersburg, FL, Chad (Christina) Rolfs of Seattle, WA and Christy (Mark) Burton of East Wenatchee. She also had six great-grandchildren, Mary Susan Scheble, Benjamin Arnold, Cooper and Cutter Rolfs and David and Jared Burton. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; one sister; and two brothers. Florences family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Gill and his staff, her friends at Garden Terrace and the staff at Highline Care Center, for their kindness and care. You are all very special people. At her request and honoring her wishes there will be no Service. Arrangements are by Heritage Memorial Chapel, East Wenatchee.
