Evelyn Juanita Palmquist

On March 25, 2015 Evelyn Juanita Palmquist went home to be with her Father in Heaven. Although her passing weighs heavily on the hearts of friends and family we know that at the end of her life's good journey she has found great joy. Evelyn's journey in life began June 12, 1922 in Colfax, Washington where she was born to Robert and Amy Huckabay. When she was 8 years of age her father died of a heart attack. Sometime thereafter Evelyn, her mother and brother Robert Lee Huckabay moved to Wenatchee, Washington. Even though the circumstances of her childhood were humble she grew up to find great richness in life. Her caring and loving nature touched many lives and brought her a wealth of lifelong friendships and a loving family of her own. Evelyn was very supportive of her children and expected only that they grow up to be good people. Beyond that she had faith that they would find success in their own way. She was always Mom first, and after that a cheerful homemaker. Her home was always a welcoming place were friends and family would find good food, whole hearted hugs and the attentive ear when one was needed. On July 20, 1941, Evelyn Huckabay married Ed Palmquist at his parents' home in Wenatchee. Evelyn and Ed raised three children, Judy and Gene (both born in Wenatchee) and Barry (born in Leavenworth after the family had moved there). Ed and Evelyn lived 'on the ranch' outside of Leavenworth until 1991 when they moved back to East Wenatchee to live a less rural life. During their retirement, Evelyn and Ed fulfilled their dream of loading up their motor home and hitting the highway. With Ed's sister and brother in law, Alice and Gail Rosebrook, they spent many enjoyable hours traveling and camping. A bit later, Ed and Evelyn had the good fortune to meet Dee and Peewee Hardgrove, who happened to share a common love of sightseeing and a burgeoning interest in rock hounding. Together these good friends spent much time traversing the northwest in search of pretty rocks and beautiful scenery. Evelyn held a special place in her heart for the Chumstick Valley Friendship Club, Gingko Mineral society, and the Church of Christ in Cashmere. Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband of 70 and a half years, Ed Palmquist; her father Robert Huckabay; mother Amy Huckabay; brother Robert 'Lee' Huckabay; son in-law Dick Laney and daughter in-law Dawn Palmquist. She is survived by her daughter Judy White & husband Gary; sons Gene Palmquist & wife Darla, Barry Palmquist & wife Sherry; nephews Jim Huckabay & wife Diane, Jerry Huckabay and Don Huckabay; grandsons Mike Laney & wife Lori, Kenny Palmquist, Brian Palmquist and wife Tasha; granddaughters Vanessa Brown & husband John and Elysse Reyna & husband Ivan; great grandsons Kyle Brown & wife Cody, Mitchell Brown, Levi Laney and Nathaniel Laney; Great granddaughter Lexie Palmquist; great- great granddaughters Lexie Brown and Brooke Brown and extended family.
