Durrell "Mick" Reister

Durrell M. Reister, 89, ‘Mick/Mickey’, was born January 24, 1936, in Kulm, N.D., to Henry and Olga (Borth) Reister. He was the fifth of six children. Mick had many memories of being a youngster going across town to help his grandfather at the Creamery. He loved helping his grandpa and venturing around the small town of Kulm. He didn’t run away; he was out visiting! One memorable day he sat in the alley tossing rocks into the “preachers” yard. When the preacher mentioned that he shouldn’t be doing that Mickey told him, “Mind your own damn business!” In 1943, the Reisters packed up and came further west, camping in their car along the way. They moved to Peshastin, where they made their home on the ranch off the old Blewett Pass Hwy. There are many memories on the ranch. Mick quit high school as a junior to work at Peshastin Lumber and Box to help his parents. In 1953, Mick joined the U.S. Army, where he served his time in Korea. After the Army, Mick went back to the mill where he worked until it was torn down in 1988. He said that that was the only way for them to get him out of there! In 1957, during Apple Blossom, Mick met Leta ‘Lee’ Brandon. Two months later, they married. Mick loved his Harley motorcycle and had fond memories of the rides they had together. Mick sacrificed his Harley to buy the family home of 60 years. He loved to take the family camping, all 6 and the dog, in his 1936 Ford pickup. He loved snowmobiling every winter, motorbike rides, and fishing (trolling ) in the summer. He enjoyed duck hunting trips with his best friend Alfred Rosinquist and grouse hunting in the old green recon. Mick loved to work on engines, and eventually he began racing for many years at the E. Wenatchee Speedway. He spent many late evenings fine tuning the #97b stock car. Mick joined the Peshastin volunteer fire department in 1970, where he served for 17 years, with the last 11 years as Fire Chief. In 1984, Mick joined the Chelan County deputy reserves, where he also served for 11 years. Mick is survived by his children: Robby Stallings, Teresa Leann (Mike) Taylor of Hamilton, MT; Bud (Randi) Reister of Malaga, Maria of Wenatchee, Sarah (Wes) Patison of Corvallis, MT. He is survived by his brothers: Jerry and Arlo of Wenatchee; sister, Jeanette Fries of Wenatchee. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Bobbie, Anthony, Jacob, Isabella, Erica, and Ryan; as well as multiple great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces/nephews and cousins. Mick was preceded in death by his wife, Leta ‘Lee’ Reister; his seven year old brother, DuWayne,;sister, Bernadean; and infant granddaughter and grandson. Our family would like to thank all the caregivers he had while in the family home: Teresa, Angie, Rachel, Kristi, Denise, and Dorene.
