Doris Lorine Baird

Doris L. Baird, 82, a 35 year Cashmere resident passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Confluence Health at Wenatchee Valley Hospital Rehab. Doris was the second of four children born to Arnim and Lorine (Friedel) Jilek in Houston, Texas. She lived in the home she was born in until she graduated from high school and married James W. White. As a devoted housewife and mother of six children, she sewed clothes for her family, led Cub and Girl Scouts while pursuing hobbies of cake decorating, knitting and crocheting. Prior to moving to Washington, Doris lived in Houston, TX; Colon, Panama; Pocatello, ID, and Kenai, AK. Doris and her two youngest children left Alaska and moved to the Wenatchee Valley in 1976. Doris lived in East Wenatchee where she worked for the Washington State Parks Department. She married orchardist Jay O. Baird, Jr. in 1978. They made their happy home together in Cashmere where for the rest of her life, Doris became busy gardening, canning, quilting, traveling and being a grandparent. Together they enjoyed boating, RVing, and traveling as far away as Egypt and Easter Island. She was an active member of the Cashmere United Methodist Church, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and Good Sam Club. One of Doris' most prized past times later in life was her volunteer position of sixteen years at Central Washington Hospital. Her love and greatness of character gave many the pleasure of calling her friend, mother, companion, worker, and faithful servant of God. She was a beautiful person who will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jay Baird; sisters, Gladys Willard and Eileen Reynolds; brother, Marvin Jilek and grandson, Fred Bull. She is survived by her children, Karen (Mike) Fisher, Winthrop, WA, Clifton (Kaye) White, Olympia, WA, Laurel (Patrick) Thompson, Cashmere, Lejoy (Don) Burleson, Cashmere, James (Laurie) White, Wenatchee, Alicia (Don) Smith, Cashmere, Gus White, Sammamish, WA; step children, Sandy (Dennis) Schott, Wenatchee, and Robin Baird, Wenatchee; 12 grandchildren, six great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2014, 2:00 pm at the Cashmere Methodist Church with Reverend Alan Oppelaar officiating.
