Carol Annette Messee

On April 26 2024 we lost our beloved Carol. She had just celebrated her 90th birthday in December. She lived a long and full life, but she was tired and ready to go. She passed away the same way she lived, on her own terms. In 1988, she was blessed with her first granddaughter, Jessica, who dubbed her Granny. All these years later, she is still Granny to all her close friends and family. Going forward, I will refer to her as Granny; that's who she was. Granny never forgot a birthday. Every year, her friends, family, and acquaintances receive a card full of sprinkles. She carried on this tradition until she was no longer able to. She had a quick wit and a sharp tongue. If Granny didn't like your new hairstyle or thought you may have gained a couple of pounds, she was pretty vocal about it. I'm not sure how many times we all heard, "What's wrong with your hair?" from her. Granny was very fashion-conscious. Her shirt matched her pants, and then there were the matching shoes. This lasted until her very last days. Her last job before retirement was at Wenatchee Reclamation District, where she made long-time friends. I am quite certain that they all remember her special carrot cake. It was amazing. It took her two days to make it, and when you tasted it, you knew why. On 12/11/54, Granny married her first husband, Jack Schmaltz. They were blessed with a son, William (Scotty), and a daughter, Barbara. Scotty passed away in October of 1962. Sadly, his passing was more than the young marriage could handle. In August of 1965 she married Joe Messee. They were together until he passed away in 2004. With that union she was blessed with a bonus daughter Laura. Laura and Barb became as close as sisters could be. Granny is survived by daughter Barb Schoenmakers, husband Joe, and daughter Laura Messee. Granddaughter Jessica Mikkelsen and husband Nick. Great-grandchildren Madison, Ransom, and Cooper Mikkelsen; Grandson Dylan Parkins; Sister Ginger Boom She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law, a niece and a nephew. Her husbands, Jack and Joe, and her son, Scotty. We want to extend a special thank you to Miriam and the staff at Senior Serenity for taking excellent care of her in her final years. Granny ended every phone call with "Goodbye for now," so Goodbye for now, Granny, until we meet again. Arrangements are in the care of Heritage Memorial Chapel East Wenatchee and Cashmere.
